The void that was left with the ban of Ephedra has been filled with a new diet suppressant called Hoodia Gordinii. Hoodia patches and pills are a craze in the US. Hoodia is a part of the cactus family and is primarily found in the desserts of the Kalahari, where the bushmen of the Kalahari dessert claimed that the hoodia is what kept them from hunger during their long hunting trips. It is believed to contain an active ingredient called p57 that suppresses the appetite. Although there are many variants of the Hoodia, only hoodia gordinii is effective in suppressing appetite.
